Tribute to Star and Garter landlord and Man Utd fan Andy Martin

“It’s a unbelievable stay music venue, and that was right down to the earthy manner Andy ran the place,” explains United fan and gig-goer Anthony Murphy.

“He by no means brown-nosed anybody – he’d speak to Johnny Marr the identical manner he’d speak to an atypical bloke on the road. You might get somebody like [Courteeners frontman] Liam Fray turning up and taking part in an acoustic set on a Saturday night time, and no one would blink an eye fixed. Anyplace else, they’d get mithered to dying.

“It’s handled every kind of threats through the years, and survived it brilliantly,” Murphy continues. “And that’s all right down to Andy’s tenacity. He had a unbelievable sense of humour too. He might convey you to tears of laughter with a one-line remark. He’d do Half Man Half Biscuit covers on open-mic nights and also you’d be in stitches. He was nice.”
